AAARRRGGGHHH!!!

This is a rant post.
I LOVE going around visiting everyones blogs. Seeing all the beautiful work and gathering inspiration from all.
BUT...
There are a couple of blogs that are so full of ads and playlists and clocks and all the other interactive stuff available that it takes forever to get in. If you can get in at all. Sometimes the screen just freezes after a couple of minutes of loading.
I have stopped visiting a few because it just aggravates me so.
Sometimes I wash a sink of dishes while waiting! No lie!!
Has this happened to anyone else?
Am I the only one?
I would love to know.

Peace

There are a couple blogs I go to that take a while to load, but that annoys me less than those that are really just an infomercial for other companies. The whole post full of links you can click to see what is new at company this, and company that. I am sure they are probably paid for the clicks. I go to the blogs to see if they have done anything new that might interest me, but I refuse to click the link. If I really need information about the company, I just Google them myself.

Yup, I'm right there with you! I don't mind the buttons for links to other altered arts groups and art related online shops....but the ads like you see on Yahoo are just plain annoying. I refuse to click on them!

is THAT what was causing freezes?

as well as the whole connection would just disappear...

now i know what was causing it all
it can be frustrating...but i still want to visit the blog...
:)
i keep the blogs that respond well
and delete the ones i have saved because i DO like their inspirational work
but if it is hard to get through...i don't want to play the game...
and i will forget after some time that this or that blog was a problem
if i click from someone else's blog i am reminded why i don't have them added to my list afterall..
thanks for letting me know why they are a problem..

I try really hard to keep my blog clean of all the gadgets, awards, etc. because I know it takes time to load all these things and my visitors aren't interested in the gadgets so why have them? I do post links to products that I discovered, in case someone else wants to check them out and I have several blogs, one for workshops, one for digital collage, one for things I might have for sale. I prefer to visit blogs that aren't flashing signs at me, slideshows that are ever revolving, they are just too distracting.

I am guilty at least in part...

Yes, I do have a blog and I do have a webstore. At times I see that I have used my blog for shameless self promotion. It is hard to draw a line in the sand between being an artist and business person. I do try to have giveaways on my blog to make it worth your while to visit. However, I do admit that I get so busy that I forget to just have fun on my blog. Thank you for bringing that to my attention and I promise to do better.

I'm there, too! Way too much 'stuff' going on and I only came to see and read about art.
I try to be mindful that there are still folks out there who can't get high speed internet. I was on dial-up for years and it really was hard to see much of anything on the net.

I may be blessed or just lazy...but so far, I haven't run into this problem. But then, I tend to only go to the blogs of people I've gotten to know. :-) I'm not really very adventurous when it comes to looking at blogs or with regards to my own blog. No bells and whistles there! LOL!! But, now I know what to avoid!! So, thanks!

There are a few blogs that I no longer follow because of the noise and clutter. I like it when bloggers put in links within the text. They really don't need a separate button somewhere else. Rant away, maybe they will listen and simplify. Janene

Oh, I totally agree. If a blog starts flashing at me, I immediately delete it. I also delete blogs that start blaring music shortly after I arrive. Why do so many people think that their taste in music is the same as mine? If they want music on their blogs, adjust it so that it won't play unless clicked on!
Some blogs have so many ads that they are hard to read. When I have to work that hard, I'm outta there!

I don't like the music that comes up automatically---I'm usually listening to something on my own! Makes me crazy.

I read a lot of regularly visited blogs on google reader. No ads that way!

I don't like music on a blog and pop ups are always annoying but I do have a slideshow on mine and I leave it there so people can quickly see what kind of work I do. I've had quite a favorable response from it, so I keep it. Maybe others have had the same???

I am extremely tired of being blasted by the loud playlist music on so many blogs. Why do others think that their music should be imposed upon everyone? Even beyond taking up bandwidth it seems just plain rude. And, yes, I am also tired of all the slideshows and games and whatever hanging up the connection.

I agree 110%. With all the "stuff" people have on their blogs it's like being back in "dial-up" land. I did not pay for DSL to wait "days" for a blog to load. Oh well. When I get my blog going hopefully it won't be a problem!!

I'm kind of guilty re the Slide shows - but I have cut them right back and now just put them in a post where applicable. Which will go into the archive section in a few days.

I have to say when I saw Slide shows on other blogs, I was wildly impressed and absolutely hadhad to have them! I also have a clock... do I really need to take that off?

What I do HATE is the music. Fine, put the music on if you have to - but isn't there a widget somewhere that allows you to load up a music section which you turn on if you want it? As soon as I hit a site with music, I am frantically trying to find where they've hidden the widget so that I can turn it OFF. My computer is in the front room (only place I can put it) and it's very distracting when my husband is watching football or whatever, and I am taking that time to catch up on blogs.

Busted! I have a clock, a slide show of my old ATCs, my name in a star, This day in history, a quote, famous actress, National Geographic sunsets, animal moms and babes, picasso art, 'cheesecake' of the day, counter for visits, world locater for my visitors, u-tube of 'Everything us Beautiful', probably missing something, but the music player I have for my own personal enjoyment. I always have the player going when I'm doing internet searches. There's lots I can get rid of but the music player stays. My blog loads quite quickly - I think because I have a fast computer. When something does not load the link is probably corrupted or offline - at least that's the case on my computer. I do have to clean up on some of the blogs I have listed, i.e. check to see if they are still current. Having a blog is like another toy to me, I've never had one before. So, I ask for your forgiveness and will look at cleaning up my blog.

Great topic & discussion here, Mary! I'm curious, if you decide to stop visiting a person's blog because of ads, music, etc., do you tell that person? Common blog courtesy is to only share positive/encouraging comments/emails, but if it were my blog you were deciding to stop visiting, I'd like to know why so I can change things if I choose to. My blog doesn't have ads or music, I'm just wondering...

Have a GREAT day!

How right you are. I especially dislike the ones where the site
comes up then all of a sudden the
background changes to colors and a print.

I cannot stand slow loading blogs! I hate it when my screen jumps up and down as it tries to load the photos in the post because there are fifteen gigbyte sizes instead of resized images. And I, too, hate it when the blog has been taken over by ads and affiliate links and visit this or that site.

I think moderation is key. Go ahead with the ads, but use them tastefully.

Allow us to see your true content.

Go ahead with the visit these sites, but put them on a blog roll page, not the sidebar.
